Free Shipping Strategies to Increase Sales

If you’re selling online, offering free shipping is a strategy that could help to increase sales conversions and the number of products you sell through your ecommerce site. The premise is that people will buy more stuff to get free shipping - I know I do!

If you’re selling online, offering free shipping is a strategy that could help to increase sales conversions and the number of products you sell through your ecommerce site. The premise is that people will buy more stuff to get free shipping - I know I do!

There are so many New Zealand businesses that have cottoned on to this marketing strategy that it’s almost expected to have some sort of shipping offer. And by building a buffer into your product price, offering free shipping doesn’t have to mean that you end up covering the cost of delivery.

Here are some ways you can offer free shipping:

  1. Offer a free shipping code that you share with your social media community, in advertising or your email newsletters. It can also be a great way to reward repeat customers.
  2. Free shipping on orders over a certain amount. Look at your average purchase value and place your free shipping amount just a bit higher. Be mindful to not make it too much of a stretch so it becomes unattractive to your customers.
  3. Free shipping for a limited time. Got some stock you want to move or have a quiet time of the year? This could be a good way to get things happening.
  4. Free shipping offers in abandoned cart emails. This could help to push the sale across the line.

Your website host should have the ability to easily add these options to your website - if you’re not sure, check with your website designer. Give it a try and make sure you promote the offer on your home page, product pages, socials and emails.
