Why We Shouldn't Forget Email

Email certainly took a back seat for lots of businesses when social media became the star of the show but it’s still a really important part of connecting with customers.

Email certainly took a back seat for lots of businesses when social media became the star of the show but it’s still a really important part of connecting with customers.

I see it like taking the next step in your customer / business relationship - first they follow you on social, then they check out your website and if they decide they like what you’re about - they might make the commitment to hand over their contact details.

Email is a really great way to remind customers that you’re there and that you’d love to keep the relationship going. For people who are still considering and for people who’ve purchased in the past to return.

Even if you don’t have time to regularly email now, make sure you’re collecting emails and building your list anyway - it’s a lost opportunity if you don’t.

You can build your list gradually and authentically through sales, website subscription forms, at events and having a sign up sheet available in store. You could even offer special information or discounts to those who subscribe!

When you do email your list, remember that we’re pretty savy with how we use our inboxes so make sure you respect your customers time and keep it relevant. Definitely don’t spam them and include an unsubscribe link. Use the opportunity to brighten their day by giving them special offers, treat them like humans by using their first name and generally making it as personal as possible.
